Meet Leisure Club
Leisure Club is a home for the conjuring of pop songs. Although the Vancouver five piece was forged in 2016 by their mutual interest in living the most relaxed life possible, their live performances inspire a rhythm in the crowd akin to spring break. “Leisure Club compact a whirlwind summer of love, lust and heartache into 3.5 minutes” (PR Press), “you can’t help but want to mix a pina colada for your friends wearing a one-piece by a pool” (Betty & Kora) and “With earnest lyrics, jangly guitars, Smail’s incredible vocal range, surging keys, and big choruses that grab you and keep you dancing until the end, Leisure Club revel in pushing the envelope of indie-pop” (Beatroute). This has led to them sharing the stage with the likes of Milky Chance, Blossoms, Ocean Alley, Lawrence, Cub Sport, Young Galaxy, and performances at Ponderosa Festival, Vancouver Fringe Festival, Khatsahlano Festival, and Break Out West.
Leisure Club’s self titled debut was released in the fall of 2017. The album went on to garner positive reviews from local and national outlets. “Leisure Club hold nothing back and with each song, they masterfully deliver a laid-back beachy indie vibe that makes you feel like you’re on an exotic island, drinking Bahama Mamas, and living it up.”(Beatroute) “Bounding between peppiness and moody lyrics like “You don’t want me in your life,” Leisure Club’s boisterous sound serves up nostalgia for 80s summer movies (and actual summer). Break ups and longing are masked by old-timey vocals and shimmy-worthy beats as the quintet dances through it all.” (Grayowl Point)
The band spent the months following the release of their debut album touring western Canada with a short run opening for Toronto act Weaves, and a handful of headlining performances across British Columbia and Alberta.
Leisure Club recently wrapped production on new material with award winning producers Howard Redekopp (New Pornographers, Tegan & Sara) and Ryan Worsley (Dear Rouge, Mathew V). Taking a new approach to their craft, Leisure Club looks forward to introducing a new disposition and new textures to their audience in 2019 and beyond.
